February Art Walk, Sailors Valentines

This series of paintings were inspired by the antique collectibles, Sailors Valentines. These objects were tokens of love made by sailors in the 1800’s to their wives, mothers, and sisters while traveling on oceans afar. These charming mosaics contain flat geometric shapes centered upon a circle filled with three dimensional flowers made out of shells. My valentine paintings are all based on a circular, swirling motif. My images contain weather pressure systems, home, natural disasters, Western leather patterns, home art décor, flora and fauna, and bold chromatic geometric patterns. In this exhibition I also included several still life paintings representing objects of my affection. -Elaine Pawlowicz
