Free To Forget

Gin likes to make her ceramic vessels look old with microfilm images in the clay. In her own words: "I am an old soul. Maybe growing up it was the constant garage selling with my mother every summer, or spending time with my now ninety-two year old grandmother (who still doesn't understand why I want her old decopage' bathroom hangings). Whatever it was, it made me into a nostalgic person; I need a sense of old to feel connected in today's world, I need a sense of history. I am unimpressed with technology and today's modern ways of connecting us, yet in the same sense disconnecting us as humans. As an artist, working in clay has allowed me to create new objects while making them look old, hoping to bring us back to where we came from...if only for a minute."
