"Ode to Dysfunction"

MSU Senior Amy Byrum will be showing her senior exhibition of ink drawings on paper titled "Ode to Dysfunction." Amy reflects on her own family dynamics with this series of drawings. "The way people interact fascinates me. We need people, we're afraid to be alone. We long for connection. Yet at the same time, it's amazing how we can mistreat each other, neglect our families, become self-absorbed, and overall oblivious to the needs of people we care about. I like exploring these topics, and calling attention to them, but I like doing so with an air of sarcasm and satire. It makes sense, not only because that's often how I cope with my own problems, but also because I feel that doing so makes these things easier for us to face, as often these ideas and concepts are things we choose not to discuss, because they're uncomfortable."
